My Damon Braces Story

So, I wanted to start this blog to kinda talk about my experiences in high school and with Damon Braces. My Name is Samantha, most of my friends call me Sami, and I’m 14. I go to a private high school in Los Angeles.  It’s not really in LA, ‘cause no one really lives in LA, but close enough.

So let me tell you a little about myself. I’m a Freshman in high school, I play club soccer for the North Valley Force, and I really enjoy theatre. Right now I’m the lead in a play called the “Servant of Two Masters” at school. It’s pretty awesome.

I got my Damon Braces on in August and that was pretty late. Most of my friends already had braces. My mom kinda messed up the timing on that.  See, my teeth were pretty jacked up. They were coming in all over the place, so we went to my regular dentist and he told me he wanted to pull out 4 of my teeth. That seemed ok, but then he said I’d have to stop soccer for 2 months. That was not going to happen. Apparently because I play goalie, the oral surgeon thought I might get kicked in the face and break my jaw if I played after having teeth taken out.  Well I play club and I’m the only goalie. Stopping play for 2 months just wasn’t an option.

Then my mom found an orthodontist and we went to him. He seemed really nice, put regular braces on and then decided that he was going to have to take teeth out. Apparently he thought there was no way to fix my jaw without removing teeth. My mom had teeth taken out when she was young, so I figured there was nothing else we could do. Then my mom found a doctor who was using the Damon System Braces. They are a new type of braces that widen your jaw, so you usually don’t have to have teeth taken out. So, I got the regular braces taken off and the new Damon braces put on.

It was a pain getting the old ones off and the new ones on, but it didn’t hurt too much. The worst thing was how long it took waiting with my mouth open.  But then, I couldn’t believe that I didn’t have much pain at all. I took Advil for a day, but after that it really didn’t hurt. It was pretty awesome. All my friends who have braces complain about them and say how much they hurt, but not mine…so far. We’ll see what happens.  I’m going to write this blog and tell you guys how it goes.

See ya.
